Thanks so much for your contributions to a very successful inaugural Beverley Photography Group meet. A few of you were away or not able to attend, you missed a great presentation by our judge Martin Carter, it was magnificent to take some time out to enjoy his slide show. Along with his precise judging it proved to be a very informative night for most. Thanks Martin, we will have to have you back at a later date so you can see our improvement as time has gone on.
Congrats to our winners and merit achievers. Deirdre (1st and 2nd) and Marissa (3rd) in the Triathlon section and Hollie (1st and 3rd), Robyn (2nd), and Marissa (two merits) in the Landscapes section. Very well deserved winners indeed, I can’t wait to see what we are all producing in a years time. For those who didn’t make the meet, please email me if you would like a copy of the Martin’s comments on your particular photos.
OPEN – Landscape
WORKSHOP – Triathlon
Our next workshop, all agreed that we will accept Northam Photography Groups invitation to a macro course on May 31st, it will be an early morning, and we can organise car pooling at a later stage for those interested. The course will be run by Craig Franke who will have extra macro lenses and extra ‘kit’ to use if you don’t have everything you need. But ideally, a macro lens (or macro option) and a tripod would be required. The cost of the course will be $20 which I think is well worth taking advantage of. Please let me know if you didn’t receive the flyer for this.
I have some other plans in the making, one of which I’d like to run some informal lessons, some of you have started the lessons before on a FB page, so you will be familiar with them. They will be run on the FLICKR platform, in which we will use a private group. FLICKR is a great way to store and share your photos without losing the quality you do on FB. So if you haven’t already made a FLICKR account, please look it up and consider registering if you are interested in these beginner lessons. www.flickr.com (you can choose to keep very private settings on FLICKR so its a safe platform). Once you’ve done that, join the private group I’ve send the link for and we’ll get started on some fun learning, but just to note, its all self monitored learning with a bit of reading to do. I’ll be here just to guide you where I think you could have improved.
Don’t forget to keep June 25th free, as this will be our second meet night at the CRC, with 2 entries required for those who attend the macro course and 2 portraits for the open section.
’Portrait photography or portraiture is photography of a person or group of people that displays the expression, personality, and mood of the subject. Like other types of portraiture, the focus of the photograph is usually the person’s face, although the entire body and the background or context may be included.’
Thanks again to everyone.
